Experiences: Life at a Famous NYC School and Jungle Survival
School of Fame: LaGuardia High School
LaGuardia High School in New York is not like most schools. It’s a famous school of music, art, and performing arts. Jennifer Aniston and Al Pacino are just two of LaGuardia’s past students who became famous. So what’s it like to go to such a school?
Students at LaGuardia study Art, Music, Dance, and Theater, but they must also do all the normal school subjects such as English and Math. Classes start at 8 am and end at 4 pm. There are up to 10 classes per day with a break of only 4 minutes between classes. Students have at least three studio classes every day and six school subjects.
LaGuardia Rules
LaGuardia has rules just like every other school.
- Students must show their ID cards to enter the building and must leave immediately after their last class of the day.
- They must dress well and must show respect to teachers and other students.
- Students must not use cell phones or pagers in class or download music from the school computers.
- And of course, they must not smoke anywhere in the school.
Just like every other school, life at LaGuardia can be tough at times. The students know that they must work hard if they want to become stars of the future. That’s the price of fame.
Jungle Survival Tips
Many people go to Africa or to the Amazon for a great wildlife experience these days. But how do you make sure you enjoy your exciting vacation in the jungle? Here are a few survival tips to help you stay safe…
Tip 1: Stay Grounded
Remember, you aren’t Tarzan so you shouldn’t swing from tree branches. Branches can break easily and you can get seriously injured! Also, you shouldn’t sleep under dead trees because they can fall on you. You should keep to the forest floor.
Tip 2: Edible Insects
Worms and insects such as ants are great to eat if you don’t have food in the jungle. A word of warning though: You shouldn’t eat insects that are brightly-colored or very hairy; they are often toxic, and you can poison yourself if you eat them!
Tip 3: Check Your Gear
You should always check your boots and clothing for insects and snakes before you put them on. They love warm comfortable places to sleep in and your clothes are great for this. You should also check your boots during the day as leeches can get in there and give you a nasty.
Tip 4: Avoid Water Hazards
You should avoid swimming in rivers and lakes. If you are near water, you should always check for alligator tracks.
Follow these simple tips and you should have a trouble-free time in the jungle!
